Finally Got the Site Back Up!
Well, it took a while to get the host issues figured out, but we're back up and running! Back with iPage (who is awesome by the way) and will be for 3 more years!
Now that this is taken care of, I can get back to updating/writing articles for the site, so make sure to keep checking back! First things first, have to finish that login system article...
Finished the Basic Website!
Well, it took a while, but the basic website is completed. There are no more pages that don't make sense (like the old about page). I fixed up the SQL tutorial (and will use the same method for the other tutorials) so that users can click through it section by section instead of being bombarded by a long article. I also justified all the text to make it read easier. Finally, I added a "Phrase of the Dat" to the side bar that changes daily. If you want to get a phrase you like or came up with in the cycle, leave it as a comment (if I also like it, I'll add it)!
Forum Maintainance
Well, the default CAPTCHA script for PHPBB was broken (it was difficult for me to complete so congratulations to whoever wrote the breaking script). However, this forced me to make some changes as we had a spider problem on the forum. Here's a list of changes:
Hopefully, these updates will be a good enough bug spray to prevent these problems in the near future. By the way, for other website owners, SiteLock was actually helpful (only had it as a free trial). It was the one that actually alerted me to the problem, granted it took them about 3 months to recognize the problem, but still, it was faster than me :P I'd like to extend my thanks and recommend to those that do not periodically scan their forums.
Additions
Turns out the new spiders can solve the image CAPTCHAs included with PHPBB. As a result, we've switched to a Q&A type CAPTCHA. Don't worry, the questions are easy! Hopefully this will be successful, I'd hate to have to add two CAPTCHAs...
Website Updated Some More
Well, in case you didn't get a chance to see, the internet spiders came in and took over, leaving more than 10,000 comments on my first post. Yeah, that's stopped. I installed a custom CAPTCHA script so that they cannot leave ridiculous numbers of comments on my posts. We'll see if it works!
I'm also working on getting some of my previous programming tutorials out there. I'm most of the way through the SQL injection tutorial, so be sure to keep your eyes out for that.
I've been working on and recently finished a website for my sister's law firm. Unfortunately, it has not been published, so I cannot put a link to it yet, but once it is, I will. Let me know what you think!
New Site Overhaul!
Welcome to the new website! I've put in some work to actually make a website out of this, instead of just a forum. The plan is to host a bunch of programming tutorials that I've written throughout the years. They aren't up yet, but I'll be slowly putting them out there one-by-one, so keep your eyes peeled! Feel free to comment and to leave feedback, or to jump over to the forum and speak with people there.
I apologize if the loading times are long. This site is currently hosted on a shared server, so we're splitting resources with who knows how many people. Hopefully, there will be a move to a new server (probably a VPS) so that it can handle a bigger payload. Once I get done negotiating that, I'll let you know!
